You're allowed to drive a car on the road with a supervising driver when you have your learner permit (Ls).
These are the steps below on how to get your Ls in Victoria.
The first stage is to take the Learner's Permit Test in the process of obtaining your driver's licence in Victoria.
To get a learner permit:
â— You must be at least 16 years old
â— You should have a Victorian residential address
â— You need evidence of identity requirements
â— You have to be medically fit to drive
â— You should not be disqualified from getting a learner permit
â— You should not be currently subject to a Fines Victoria license sanction
â— You should not have any outstanding relicensing requirements, i.e. Licence Eligibility Order
â— You should have passed all the appropriate tests
â— And pay the appropriate fees.
You can now take the test online or in person.
The Learner Permit Test is a 4-6 hour interactive course and assessment. The course teaches you the road rules to follow when driving in Victoria and developing safe driving skills.
To apply for your learner permit, you need to pass the final assessment at the end of the course.
You can enrol yourself in the course when you're at 15 years and 11 months; however, you will only be issued with a learner permit when you're 16 years of age or older.
You just need to make an appointment to visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to take the test Learner Permit Test In-person
You can take the test in person if you:
â— can speak a language other than English; otherwise, you need an interpreter
â— shouldn't have access to a computer or internet
â— have a hearing or vision impairment or
â— chose to take the test in person.
